Q. I've just updated my nvidia graphics driver and now the graphics seem to be running very slowly, what's wrong?
A.When your new display driver was installed it simply returned your graphics settings back to default. To rectify this simply enter your display properties, click settings, advanced and then click the Nvidia tab. In here under OpenGL settings there will be a setting for 'Vertical Sync'. Set this to 'Always Off' and click apply.
Q. I've just rebooted my pc and it has now come up with a message saying 'NTDLR is missing or corrupt" what's wrong?
A.You simply have a disk left in the floppy disk drive. Simply remove this and re boot. If the problem continues please contact our support department on 01332 545802
Q. In StruCad when i zoom in/out of a 2D model my grid lines disappear, what's wrong?
A.To rectify this please enter your display properties, click settings, advanced then click on the ATI configuration. From here please select '3ds Max' from the list of applications and then click apply
Q. I've just installed Autodesk Inventor 10 and the graphics seem to be running slower than my old workstation, what's wrong?
A.This is a known Inventor problem. There is a Autodesk registry fix that will rectify this. Please visit our download/patches section and follow the instructions
Q. When i use the magic wand tool or rotate images in Adobe Photoshop CS i get a blue screen and windows crashes. I'm using a dual processor workstation, what's wrong?
A.This is a known Photoshop problem. Please visit the following url as this is a known software issue: - http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=2560.
Q. I'm using AutoDesk Architectural Desktop 2005 (ADT 2005) with my new dual processor workstation and i am getting very strange zoom behavior. When i zoom in/out of a drawing the graphics go very funny. I've tried updating the graphics driver but this hasn't worked, what's wrong?
A.This is a known ADT problem (but not yet logged by Autodesk). It is related to multi-threaded or hyper-threaded workstations and causes ADT's zoom function to behave strangely. To fix this change the variable WHIPTHREAD in ADT from 2 (the default in ADT2005) to 1. This will make the problem go away.
Q. I have 4GB of RAM installed in my workstation but i can only see 3.25GB in Windows?
A.If you have a total of 4GB memory, your
system will detect less than 4GB of total memory because of address space
allocation for other critical functions. These can include: -
- System BIOS (including motherboard, add-on cards, etc.)
- Motherboards resources
- Memory mapped I/O
- configuration for AGP/PCI-Ex/PCI
- Other memory allocations for PCI devices
Different onboard devices and different add-on cards (devices) will result in a different total memory size.
e.g. more PCI cards installed will require more memory resources, resulting of less memory free for other uses.
On a SLI system, since PCI-Ex graphic cards will occupy around 256MB, another 256MB will be occupied after you install a 2nd PCI-Ex graphic card. Hence, 2.75GB memory left only if two SLI cards installed. This limitation applies to the majority of single CPU chipset's under both Windows XP 32-bit and x64 operating systems.
If you install Windows XP 32-bit version operating system, we recommend that you install less than 3GB of total memory, however if more than 3GB memory is required for your system we recommend that the following two conditions are met: -
1. A memory controller that supports memory swap functionality is used (memory mapping)
2. Microsoft Windows XP Pro X64 Edition (64-bit) is used (or another OS that can address > 4GB memory)
